Pet insurance

DogMoneyWith the new federal health insurance rules, medical insurance will be available to everyone throughout the United States. Whether you agree with that or not, insurance can remove a huge financial burden from a family with a member who has a serious illness. But what about our four-legged companions? Pet insurance has been around for a number of years but has not become commonplace. Many of the policies were complicated and restrictive and did not make their value clear to owners.

At Blairstown Animal Hospital, we realize that veterinary care can be expensive. We stay on the cutting edge of diagnostics, utilizing digital radiography and ultrasound on a daily basis. We perform a multitude of complex surgeries and procedures for cats, dogs and even the occasional rabbit and ferret. Advances in pain management and anesthesia, including routine use of epidurals, continuous-rate-infusion pain medications, and computerized monitoring, have dramatically improved our patient care. Although these advances greatly benefit out patients, veterinary medical (along with other medical fields’) costs continue to increase. We strive to practice the best medicine possible to provide our patients a long and happy life while also providing the best value for your pet. We don’t want you to have to choose a lesser level of care because of expense.
catPCPet insurance offers a way for you to give your beloved friend the best health care possible. We are recommending Trupanion pet insurance. As it is with all insurance, the policy contains certain restrictions, but overall, it is very easy to understand. They pay 90% of expenses, minus the initial exam fee and any deductible (optional). Pre-existing conditions and routine health care (including dental cleanings) are not covered. They do require your pet have annual exams as well as all preventative care such as heartworm and vaccinations, which of course, is good for your pet. With the pet insurance policy, the unexpected expense of an accident or illness is dramatically reduced, allowing us to make the best medical decisions regarding care.

Trupanion offers coverage with no limits per claim, per year, or over the life of your pet. Their reimbursement is not based on pre-established prices by the company but rather on the actual veterinary invoice. We currently have 30-day trial certificates, which allow you to have free coverage for that period. We just need to give your pet a complete physical exam and fill in the findings. Then you activate the promotion within 24 hours. If you would like more information, please check out their website at trupanion.com or call them at 1-800-569-7913. Our staff is also familiar with their policies, so you can also contact us and we can help answer your questions.
